About The Painting:
|
| |
| The painting illustrates the
life and dreams of Sam Walton, reflecting both his personal growth and
maturation and the growth of his company. The right foreground recalls
the childhood of Sam and his brother Bud Walton, as Bud looks on with
his usual patience. In the left foreground of the painting is Sam's first
Bentonville Five and Dime. |
|
Pulling out from the original store
is one of many drivers of the Wal-Mart fleet - Sam depended so much
on the loyalty and dedication they provided that they proved to be the
cornerstone of his logistical success. The image of Sam in the center
is best described by Jack Welch, the CEO of General Electric Company:
"Sam Walton understood people the way Thomas Edison understood
innovation. He brought out the very best in his employees, gave his
very best to his customers, and taught something of value to everyone
he touched."
|
|
Above is a contemplative image of Sam
in a thoughtful pose as he considers the future and reflects on his
past. Sam and his wife Helen are shown above the first Walton's Five
and Dime in an image symbolizing her enduring support, her commitment
and the guidance that Sam so dearly relied upon. To the right side of
the painting is Sam enjoying one of the simple pleasures of his life,
bird hunting with his dog, ol' Roy.
|
| Superimposed over the background
of the painting is a last image of Sam Walton, forever looking on as his
company and associates move forward to keep his dream alive. Placed over
his heart is an image of the American flag, symbolizing his devotion and
dedication to the country that he so well served. Subtly blended into
the clouds behind is a faint image of the most prestigious award one can
receive, the Presidential Medal of Freedom; "It was the highlight
of our entire career." |
